- But there are concerns that Correa may follow in the footsteps of his leftist ally

To my knowledge and to the knowledge of a good source in South America, these concerns are not justified. Dynasty, specifically, operates in a very pro-mining district which has Correa's support.

Granted, everything can change in life. But I suspect that where major changes are coming is in the good old USA.

"who threatened this week to close a top anti-government television station for fomenting civil unrest."

Globovision? Good that he does. They're troublemakers like all media. If you don't believe the news media in our country why would you think Globovision is any better? Give Chavez a break. If he ruins the economy he will be VOTED out.

Some television stations including Globovisión had “actively participated in coups d’etat,” the statement said, in a reference to the station’s broadcasting during the political crisis which briefly removed Chávez from office in April 2002.

These channels had also promoted violence and the assassination of the head of state, among other things, the ministry said. As to the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) carrying out inquiries about Globovisión and other broadcasters, this was above board, it maintained.
