I don't know many people who play lotto - it is not really an educated person's ticket to a better life and the State is a terrible gaming boss - the house keeps 66% of the take and pays out 33%. If blackjack were this lousy Vegas would be empty. I'm sure at the racetrack the house take is much lower as well, but since I don't bet I don't know. At any rate, lotto is at best a regressive "stupid tax" that is disproportionately and cynically targeted at the people that least able to benefit from it. It doesn't always elevate the people who win because, for some, their problem is ignorance and money doesn't cure that.
