I am an only child so I had no one else to satisfy. My wife and - a true Democrat - was very realistic. Basically it was my family asset. When her dad died she and her two brothers dealt very realistically with the issue - but it was not like now and their realization was near what was expected. I completely stayed out of that.

Have they tried to buy a nice house in the same area? If they say they don't like the area....well, what does that tell them!

I mentioned this to you privately, but anyone selling property in a depressed market should keep mineral rights if they have them. Another note, you don't pay property taxes on mineral rights.
