Activist Judge? She is being promoted as a mainstream progressive judge. The balance of voting in the Supreme Court will not likely shift at all if she is confirmed to replace another liberal leaning judge.

Few things are "forever" in politics. And even "lose the Hispanic vote" is a bit too strong (although I could see it having a modest negative effect for them).

Liberal Hispanics already vote for the Dems. Conservative ones are less likely to fully support Sotomayar, esp. to the extent of reversing their voting pattern long term.
