Sotomayer herself regards her story as something of utmost importance to her quality as a judge. In fact, she says it is what causes her judicial opinions to be better than the judicial opinions of white men. If she thinks it's important, then of course everybody to the left of Hannity will agree it's important. Notice this logic doesn't work for conservatives. Clarence Thomas' story (he was raised by his grandfather, a sharecropper) is of no importance whatsoever.
