Republicans should use the hearings as a forum to explore her views and judicial philosophy fully. Let the world know this is the type nomination we can expect from The One next time around, when the nominee might be replacing, say, Justice Kennedy.

Opposing is not the same as asking all of the pertinent questions and receiving answers.

I do have a list of questions-----

1. Is she Hispanic as the New York Times states in their headlines and is she American? And why is this important?

I looked at her picture and saw a woman who looks more oriental in physical appearance, than Hispanic.

2. The case in which she ruled against the better qualified white firemen applicants leaves a question in how she would rule in similar cases as a Supreme Court Justice

3. The Supreme Court rules not just for the City of New York, it makes rulings for the nation.

I would like to hear some about her experience other than in NYCity and Princeton-------what is her knowledge of the rest of the USA and her experience.------has she lived anywhere other than the North East?

In conclusion----

Quite frankly, I don't care that she is Hispanic as the New York Times stated in their headline. What I care about is that she is an American.

Why not a simple headline------"Sotomayor Named by President Obama for Supreme Court"-----then to the details. That is good journalism.

Who serves on the Supreme Court is of concern to all Americans. The media failed to vet Obama, giving him a free pass based on his campaign rhetoric and his being bi-racial.

We don't need more of the same by the media for the Supreme Court.

They will go to extremes to get her on the court. They will win , so I don't think it should be a long process at all.

jlallen,

I think we actually agree on this one. From what I've read about Sotomayer she'll be a consistent liberal vote, but I don't think she has either the intellect or the personality to swing the votes of anybody else.

If the Republicans try to attack or block her they will lose more ground with Hispanics.

The Republicans need to worry less about their "base supporters" and worry more about the country's changing demographics.

IMO, makes no sense to oppose this nomination....it changes nothing on the Court.

I look at it in "degrees of badness"....yes, there will still be a lot of 5-4 votes with the new nominee on the court, but the less radical the train of thought the better.

Look at it in terms of being forced to have unwanted house guests, surely some lefties would be more tolerable than others....if you had to choose one(no other choices available)...would you pick Parsons or Phillipps for an overnight stay?.....both bad options, but I suspect there would be a difference.

If the thin man sails through enough nominees in his 3 or 4 terms, we will truly know the meaning of intrusive.
