Ted, I agree with much of what you said, but I sure don't buy the notion that Californians are trying to get something for nothing.

Ever since I moved from Oregon to California, I've had to pay much more in terms of taxes, living costs, and general fees. I work harder than ever to continue living here, but that's by choice. It's the so-called "sunshine tax," and I didn't mind the huge jump for the opportunity to live here.

But that doesn't mean I have no limits. Mine just happen to be a lot higher than others, such as a former coworker who was forced to transfer to Arizona because of reasons you can probably guess. And if this state continues to pretend it has revenue problems, Oregon is going to look attractive again. And not just to me, either.

By the way, if you don't like the "Californication" of the Pacific Northwest, you too will be advocating for our state to clean up its act. Repeal Prop. 13 and I guarantee you that you won't like the unintended consequences. Even Wharf Rat would probably flee this sinking ship if that happened.
