I didn't have to read any further after I saw this sentence about the dumbest thing they have done to education in the last two decades: High-school shop-class programs were widely dismantled in the 1990s as educators prepared students to become “knowledge workers.” I took shop class in grade school two years, and I still remember and use virtually everything that I learned there. I can't say the same about any other class that I took in seventeen years of education.
