Attended an AIDS treatment conference to discuss ICAAC held in Toraonto. This was held in NYC at St. Vincent's Hosp. auditorium.
Viracept was warmly received. I spoke to a PWA who was taking Crixavan and he stated that if Viracept had been available, he would of opted for it (being more user friendly). Crixivan users must follow a strict regimen schedule and that must be incorporated into one's business and social schedule.

In addition, an AIDS Doctor Specialist (humanitarian type) from the "East Village" was the guest speaker and lectured. Many of his patients are substance abuse users. He stated that he would never prescribe Crixivan to these people as they would almost always fail that is not being able to adhere to the strict regimen schedule.

Also, Roche's Saguiniver has been completely removed from the recommended list by "the guidelines" for anti-retroviral tri-therapy.
Mean while Roche is scrambling to get FDA approved of a new soft gel version of Saguinver called Fortovase which is better absorbed.
I spoke to clinical trials and 1250 mg. three times a day are reguired and diahrera is a side effect. Incidently, Roche has just begun clinical trial studies at Beth Israel, a study of Fortovase & Nelfinivar as dual protease inhibitors.

Also, a new interesting nucluside drug called Combovir (Glaxo) which incorporates AZT & 3TC together in one pill thus eliminating taking two nuclusides with a PI. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Oliver, you being a doctor, I'm interested in your response.
