predisposition too.

I had a two hour conversation last night with my youngest child about the conundrum of "predisposition".....the conundrum being that we all leave childhood having formed some opinions of what's right/wrong or good/bad. From that point on, in our reading and our observations, we unconsciously hone in on information that supports our predispositions and somewhat innocently overlook evidence to the contrary.

We decided that there's a kind of emotional security that comes from having strong convictions. And that to maintain a constant state of being unconvinced about anything creates a state of mental tension that is 'naturally unpleasant'.....the human mind being such that it gravitates toward resolution, not uncertainty.
