I was against publishing the names of people arrested for crimes of solicitation.

Indeed. Are you old enough to remember the horror of the suicides that occasionally followed when a person's name was published after being arrested for homosexuality?

Still, the idea behind the vote is that it is a secret ballot so I'm not in favor of publishing who voted for what issue (names on ballots, for instance).

The Prop 8 situation was the first time I gave any thought to the fact that publishing the names of political donors runs counter to the notion of secret balloting. You raised some good questions, and I don't know how this could be fully resolved.

As for the map of actual street addresses, I viewed it as an invitation for outright retribution....more than just the embarrassment that the publishing of a name would bring. Why else create the map?

Perhaps maps to the homes of the six CA judges will be put up on the web.
