It will not be a wedge between Republicans and Hispanics, any more than the Dems' tormenting of Thomas drove a wedge between the Blacks and Dems. And I don't believe the Repubs should do a character assassination of Sotomayer.

Sotomayer regards herself as a Latina, btw.

Sotomayer lives for identity politics, but isn't among the larger group under the umbrella of "Hispanic." I suspect that she won't necessarily be heralded by those who would prefer an appointee of their own background.

I don't think identity politics should enter into any decisions, but I'm not a Democrat.

The dems attack Micheal Estrada for almost a year and it didn't hurt them with the Hispanic vote

nothing to be gained by making it a wedge between Republicans and Hispanics.

You can oppose what she has done. Sure it will be called "racist," but there is no way out of that.

The Dems are doing their best to "90%" the Mexican population they same way they have the blacks.

George Bush and John McCain were huge supporters of amnesty, yet hispanics overwhelmingly voted for Obama. So what wedge are we trying to avoid? I know we're supposed to appease right? So does that mean that republicans roll over on every issue as well? Why not for once act like republicans, expose Obama for the radical that he is? Acting like a democrat (aka the McCain ticket, got us into this mess!) I'm sorry I've lost enthusiasm for being in a wimp party, time to grow a set...
