Mainly I just don't want Republicans getting burned trying to put out a fire they can't.

But if Republicans adopted that rule of thumb, they might as well stop opposing anything Obama does, tries, or proposes. After all, they are in the minority.

I may be a Pollyanna, but I choose to see the glass half full and to advocate a strong and principled position on each issue as it arises. As a party, Republicans lost their way because of worries over getting burned by this or that because of the way Dems characterize things.

It's time to stand for principles and that includes appropriate challenges to appointees, even if their approval is a foregone conclusion due to the numbers.

My guess is that the party will attract more followers if it maintains principles.
