The world's population went up about 50% during the 1st Industrial Revolution (1750-1850). Since the start of the 2nd Industrial Revolution about 1850, the world's population doubled in the next 100 years. Since 1950 -- and for this discussion we could call this the 3rd Industrial Revolution -- the world's population has gone up almost 175% during these past 60 years. I'm not sure we, as a planet, can afford for this growth rate to keep increasing or even remain steady, as that would project the world's population to reach nearly 17 billion by 2070.
