The North Korean midget dictator simply believes that the sheriff won't shoot. Kim Jong Il is a bad character; a police character but he is a character. The challenge facing the Obama doctrine isn't directed against an idea: it is aimed squarely at what Kim thinks is the new President's lack of it.

He is right, he won't shoot and has no idea. Amateur hour in the White House is going to cause a huge problem here at some point I'm afraid. Being weak and clueless is a sure way to embolden maniacs to take you on.

They consider the state of South Korea an internal matter. Are we prepared to roll over when they declare "peace" and roll into the South to take over? When they can nuke Tokyo of course we will.

"The North Korean leadership cares about internal matters, not external matters," said Wendy R. Sherman, who coordinated North Korea policy in the Clinton administration. "They care about external matters only insofar as it helps ensure the survival of the regime."
