"You should work in gov't for six months......I suspect it would be a real eye opener for you."

I have worked with government social worker types and I've worked in the private sector where producing something of value is not only meaningful but a measurable criteria of success. Government social services workers are, in general, unbelievably incompetent to the point of causing way more problems than they help. Lots of very screwed up young kids go into college programs to become social workers or psychologists because they feel nurtured while in the programs. Then they become social services professionals of some sort and are sent into the world to fix everybody else. They are social movement types who are the least productive, least stable, most encumbered with disfunctions of their own and who are convinced changing the world to be more accommodating to people like them is a good idea. Technicians who simply manage food stamp programs or something aren't too bad but in the fields where they muck around with people and their life styles ... fogettuboddid.

Ted, > Using the words you use to describe the situation........you have a way of demonizing anyone who works for the gov't.

You have to get over this notion that I'm demonizing any individual government worker. Or that reforming government bureaucracy means shutting down basic government services like fire and police protection.

That's the kind of thinking that ensures nothing will ever get fixed and that government will continue growing by leaps and bounds without any improvement in the quality of services offered.
