All that can really be said is that 52% of CA voters voted against gay marriage and they represent for now the majority.

Correct, about the percentage that Bush won re-election by in 2004. He and Cheney convinced the electorate at the time that they were right, by a fairly narrow margin. But things change over time. That's why I think a lot of the more strident, zealous voices on the right don't know how to cope with a different outcome now. They hadn't prepared themselves for a different audience for their message.

Same thing will happen at a lot of churches who mobilized for Prop 8 so intensely. I'm just glad the existing 18,000 marriages will be recognized and those people can enjoy the benefits and happiness of married life.

I think I recall that more money was raised to defeat Prop 8 than to pass it, too.

According to Wikipedia, "The campaigns for and against Proposition 8 raised $39.9 million and $43.3 million, respectively."
