If that is indeed the reason that Mormons or others don't approve of gay marriage, then they are simply wrong. No one forces any one minister, priest or rabbi to marry specific couples. Churches (most) don't approve of gay marriage because they don't believe gay sex to be natural, moral, or in keeping with God's desire for human behavior. Sorry to be so blunt, but that's the basis and we're all free to agree or disagree with this position but it still remains the starting point for clerical decisions regarding church membership, marriage ceremonies, the blessing of civil marriages, etc. All I'm saying is that there is concern among churches that legalizing gay marriage opens the door for gay couples to successfully litigate the receiving of full membership in the church of their choice which would include weddings, baptisms, blessings, adoption services, and so on. You say 'no one forces a minister, priest or rabbi', but maybe no one has tried or even wanted to try before now. We've become a very litigious society.
