I personally feel that Sotomayor is a very mediocre candidate and there is no reason that Republicans cannot vigorously oppose her on principle. Her gender and ethnicity should not be an issue, despite the fact that Obama's selection of her was an act of cynical political calculation. Aside from her politics, my big problem with her is the fact that she lacks substance. I would suggest that most people, regardless of their political beliefs, would have to agree that Roberts and Alito have substance. Bush made two great picks. Of course, Bush should be ashamed of himself for nominating Harriet Miers. If I recall correctly, there was a lot of opposition to that nomination on this thread.

I hope that the GOP can avoid the shrill rhetoric. It appears too partisan. Obama is fiercely partisan, yet most of the American people are convinced that he is bipartisan. Rhetoric and demeanor earn you style points, whether you deserve them or not.

Republican congressmen should watch videos of democrats in action when grilling SC nominees. They should use their words and throw them back at them when grilling Sotomayor. They should not stoop to the low tactics some used against certain nominees, but it is time for them to either take off the gloves or quit complaining and continue to wallow in their ineptitude.

I'm not advocating nastiness or character assassination, but I also don't advocate the nicey nicey approach........imo a vain attempt to appeal to the left........they've been using up till now. If they use the same approach that John McCain used in the election, they'll continue to lose ground with the American public.

It's time to educate Americans about what U.S. law and justice mean.
