If they can increase profits after this kind of cut, it'll be a miracle. The DEC deal sure is a great start - it'll be profitable in 12 months!

I don't remember if I posted in on this thread or another Intel thread, but back when they downplayed the fourth quarter expectations I said that I thought they did it because they planned to cut the hell out of Pentium and Pentium II chips to put the fear of God into anyone who thought they could compete with them. They knew it would hurt profits so they downplayed expectations appropriately.

Why buy a fast Pentium MMX machine when a similiarly-equiped faster Pentium-II machine is only $100-$150 more? That'll burn a hole in AMD's pocket.
