Everyone understands the perils of war making, but many people have a real tough time getting behind torture, even if you believe in your heart the person deserves the torture.

Dude... Torture is drilling holes in their kneecaps (or basically leaving permanent marks), breaking arms, bamboo shoots up the finger nails, or electric shock to the testicles. And I highly doubt that any of that has been authorized in an official capacity.

Aggressive interrogation, reserved for those we're pretty sure have vital information, is no more torture than if you are taking a belt to your children. Like punishing your child, so long as you don't leave a permanent mark, it wasn't considered child abuse (who knows now.. ;0).

And all this hoopla about water boarding?? Only 3 people were approved for it, according to reports, and none of them were ever in danger of dying. They were just made to believe they were drowning. Hell, I used to get my mouth washed out with soap by my mother (pretty aggressively, I might add). Was that torture?

My mother was quite a disciplinarian when I was a wee lad. I vaguely remember after a particularly severe "torture" session (which I probably deserved at the time. ;0). I was probably 12 years old at the time. So I went to the police station and reported child abuse for being spank so hard. They looked at my butt, didn't see any evident marks, called my parents in and sent me home.

I will say that mom was a bit more restrained after that, but dad sure was p*ssed because I went to the police.

And btw, we had millions of German/Italian POWs locked up here in the US and some of them died in prison due to "harsh interrogation". And between 1945-48, millions more lived in squalid camps, were fed woefully inadequate rations, and used as "slave labor" rebuilding Europe. Thousands died in these camps.
