Aussies feeling the heat: "$A in free fall as market slumps"

"Gold is our second most important commodity export in dollar terms,
and a fall in its value hurts the local currency."

While the dollar has now fallen by more than 3c in four trading days,
traders are not ruling out further falls.

"There are people out there talking about 60c - it is not out of the
question - but most of the recent fall has more to do with the fall
in gold price [than a fundamental push towards US60c]," said a NatWest
Markets bond and currency strategist, Mr Stephen Halmarick.
