The driver licence is a duplicate of a duplicate, the real one being on file at the DMW. The copy represents an actual licence with no fraud or forgery involved and the one the cops have is buried in a pile at Estopa where it will never see the light of day again.

Real fraud is involved when a cop is asking for a tip after pulling someone over that is not speeding.

I could have gone to the DMV in Canada and bought 10 so called real copies for $20 but I prefer the free copies I can make. Like Frank says so well "I did it my way..." and no one is going to hoodwink this Anglo.

ElM, the licence is NOT the item one carries. The licence is the legal authority issued by the government. The item carried is merely evidence that one has a licence.

If one loses a marriage licence, it doesn't mean you are no longer married. You are still legally married. If you photocopy your passport and give a copy to an immigration person it doesn't mean you are not who you say you are and are no longer a citizen of that place.

Even carrying an actual piece of paper issued by the government is not evidence that one has a licence. In New Zealand, the government used to issue lifetime licences. I had one as did we all. Then they decided that those were no longer valid. They changed the rules so we had to give them more money every few years [speaking of which, I wonder if I have still got a licence - note to self = check stupid government piece of paper].

A friend refused to accept such breach of contract. When the police stop you, it becomes quite a drama with them trying to grab the piece of paper.

Ponokee was wise to carry and present copies. Spare passports are no doubt a good idea too.

Scummy countries where there are criminals running the place are never going to amount to much. That's why you won't see your "spreading of capital" or "reduction to natural size". Zimbabwe wants capital from capital hoggers like me so that they can dig more gold [but really so they can steal the capital]. You don't really think that Switzerland is going to "revert to its natural size" becoming more like Zimbabwe or that Zimbabwe will revert to its natural size and become more like Switzerland.

Zimbabweans were better off as a colony of civilized people. I am happy to recolonize them for a small tradable citizenship allocation.
