. the military build up would be started well before hand and during the warning phase so there would be no reason for them to suspect we were serious about force at all, they might think it's just bravado... at the end of the day, if there is no capitulation and they do not comply, then they're gone in a blink... How do you handle the fallout cloud drifting over Japan? You know, military adventures have a way of going in unplanned directions. The Fog of War. The North Koreans are nuts. If you think you could pull this off without a million friendly casualties, I think you are totally wrong. Too many uncertainties by far.....otherwise it would have been done by now.

Re: You could come up with all kinds of "what if" scenarios for the next 60 years, but there are steps in between... extreme sanctions, freezing assets, and so on, all before military force... Exactly true! Hit 'em where it hurts --- in their wallet. NO FOREIGN AID (of any kind.) No aid. No loans, no grants, no trade preferences, NO BANKING RELATIONSHIPS, NO FOREIGN BANK ACCOUNTS FOR THE CORRUPT LEADERSHIP. No nothing. And --- assemble international task forces to board and inspect (or disable/sink should any resist boardings and inspections as they have previously threatened...) all transports that leave the nation. Ships, planes, trains, autos. Should any be found trying to export prohibited weapons --- then seize them and (using that justification) proceed to seize ALL foreign North Korean bank accounts... and put extreme pressure on all other nations to support this set of policies --- on pains of being tarred with the same brush.
