Baltic Dry Index hit a low at 666 on 12-5-08. Today's level of 3494 is almost five times as high. However: a large number of chartered ships are not moving. For example, the Korea Times reports that 735 ships are anchored off Singapore, waiting to off-load cargoes, or obtain new ones. Mish has provided links to pictures of stranded ships and over-capacity car lots.
