Race Only Matters When it Favors Democrats
by John Romano

“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

The above statement will stick with me. In fact, it just won’t leave my mind, like a lot of other AO – that’s After Obama - political moments. I’m beginning to question when enough is enough with the double standards developing in our society.

The gay lobby wants same sex marriage legalized. Equality, if you will. Many of the same anti-Prop. 8 folks would be the first to back anti-gay hate crime laws. Get it folks. Murdering a white woman is one crime. Murdering a gay male is two crimes. I think one murder charge equally applied under the law is enough. Lock ’em up, I say. If the gay lobby were smart they’d put an initiative on the ballot in California removing gays as a “protected group” while at the same time removing the gay marriage ban. It would win in a landslide. I digress.

The cool aspect about the Obama “thing” was the August night in Denver 2008 when one of the two major political parties in this country finally chose a black man as its candidate. I can’t stand anything Obama stands for, the socialism, the race baiting, the class warfare, but I was very proud that night.

There will always be, and should be, speculation as to how Obama won all but one of the caucus states, yet essentially split the primary states with Hillary. Add to that the fact that Hillary won huge in New Jersey, Texas (the primary part), New York and California. It is an odd thing to ponder that Obama wasn’t the choice of Democrats in those states. Yet again, I digress.

From the nomination forward, the fix was basically in for President Obama. When your esteemed opponent starts to publicly castigate his supporters for using your middle name in public, things are looking good. Let’s face it. The Democrats had a sure thing this time around.

One interesting consequence of Obama’s nomination: it put the press in one hell of a bind. They so wanted to help Obama, but in order to do this they needed to destroy his opponent. The opponent was a man the press spent 20 years coddling: the “maverick” Republican John McCain. I put maverick in quotes not because the good Senator isn’t one (anyone who survives prison camp and becomes a US Senator afterwards surely thinks and acts differently than most people) but because the press loves to use this label to thumb their collective noses at conservatives. The press had used Senator McCain as a weapon against conservatives for years. Now that he was running and got the nomination, they were having trouble turning on him. Amazingly, even they wouldn’t want to look that hypocritical.

Enter the Alaska governor. Sarah Palin was perfect. Gun owner, pregnant teen daughter, University of Idaho graduate. They unloaded everything they had on her and made the election about her supposed “stupidity.”

Fast forward to this week, when Barack Obama chooses Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court. Robert Gibbs has already warned the GOP to be “exceedingly careful” in going after Sotomayor. A very thinly veiled race threat.

Gibbs’ and other Democrats’ attempts to silence all debate by loosely throwing around racism charges was a key ingredient in getting Obama elected. With Obama, we never even got to see his school records (obviously there is something to hide or they would have been released); even asking to see his grades somehow became racist. Let’s not make the same mistake again with Sotomayor.

I want clarification as to why she feels that being a Latina woman makes her inherently wiser than a “white male.”

Don’t you?
