Seems to me ultimate blame is attributable to government -- as usual. In FDR's time vote buyers granted unwarranted power to the goons. The goons evolved a strategy of stomping the manufacturers one at a time. Came LBJ's inflation, management erroneously assumed they could just forever pass on, like, whatever, costs incurred, or compensate with sloppy manufacturing. When better competition began eating their lunch there was no escape from legacy costs and the type of iron that implied.

This will reach end stage. Someday.

GM...a penny stock. Who would have 'thunk it' a year ago? When the US Government buys fleets of cars, are they going to buy them only from Government Motors?

What about Ford, and the other manufactures who didn't take handouts, and who keep their unions in check?
