Just roll that piece of twisted logic around in your mouth for a bit. Ummm, no, try "A security's last reported sale price". The value is plummeting as the investment aspect is being removed. I mean from Freakonomics no less. It can mean something, can't tell from the quote if it does. If the author was comparing two sets of transactions over the same period, one for non-foreclosed home and the other for forclosed homes, then he could be using the non-forclosed homes as his basis for market value.
