Are you including the entire population of the US? Because if you only take into account the population 18 years and older, I am almost certain that the turnout was greater than 50%! That's horrendous.

I actually removed the 50% cite because I noticed you were saying 70% of those who cared, not registered voters, and also because I can't provide an exact number. But if my memory serves there hasn't been an election in several cycles where turnout even approached 50% of the registered voters. And not all citizens over 18 are registered.

We live in a country of apathetic sheep ready to be lead by whoever tells them the most of what they want to hear. Both sides.

Do you remember the Simpsons Halloween episode from last year where Kodos and Kang (two aliens) replaced Clinton and Dole? When exposed they said that Earth was doomed because we had to elect one of them because it's a two party system. When someone said they could vote for a third party the aliens said "Sure! And throw your vote away!" (Perot was shown punching his hat.) I think Kang was the one that won.
