I did not see mass movements in Russia on the scale of what we saw in China and Poland. The Russian movement, however small, was restricted to the intelligentia in Moscow. Besides, Gorbachev also helped the situation with his glasnost and perestroika. That enlightened approach, which I believe was hatched in the halls of U. of Moscow weakened the conservative members of the Politburo
