I think it is a bit much to claim we had not already entered the war when our destroyers were sinking u-boats in the Atlantic.....economic interests or not. FDR was under immense pressure from Churchill to make it official, and he was holding him off waiting on the right political situation to develop. But clearly, we were committed to the war WELL before Pearl happened.
