I just got word from my Congresswoman, Cathy McMorris-Rodgers, that we now need enhanced identification or a passport to travel to Canada and back.

That's been on the table for a while. Effective date was 6/1. Prior to this, if you traveled into the US from Canada or Mexico by air or sea, you needed a passport.

For land travel, they also allow a "Passport Card" or an Enhanced WA State ID Card, which contains an RFID chip.
