Funny you should bring that up. Starting today everyone has to show a passport to get back into the USA:

First day of passport rule goes smoothly
All adults entering the U.S. by land now must have a passport or similar identification.

By: John Myers, Duluth News Tribune

INTERNATIONAL FALLS — No longer can you make a last-minute decision to join your cousin’s fishing trip to Lac Seul. No weekend shopping excursions for Fort Frances folks to Duluth — unless you have a valid passport.

Today is the first day that anyone entering the U.S. by automobile must have a valid passport or similar document – and that includes Canadians entering the U.S. as well as Americans returning home.

It’s a post 9-11 rule that’s been years in the making, delayed twice by Congress, aimed at curbing illegal entry of unsavory people.

Few problems were reported Monday as U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents began enforcing the new requirement. But with the prospect so well publicized, and agents allowing the benefit of the doubt, no major problems were expected.

I have neither, but it appears I will have to get a passport if I ever want to go into Canada again.
