Young Con Anthem

Young Cons is not attempting to force their religious beliefs onto anyone, but rather encourage discussion among the American youth. They do not claim to have all the right answers, but merely try to express their views through music. Their goal is not to pursue a rap career, but rather get young Americans involved in politics.

Young Conservatives is a group with a devout mission to spread the love and logic surrounding true conservatism. Our greatest enemy lies in the lack of understanding of the conservative movement. In a technological era driven fiercely by the main stream media, those who taut the true conservative message of individual responsibility, moral absolutes, and small government are slanted as intolerant, racist, "bible and gun clinging", corporate fat cats who could not care less about the environment nor the well being of their fellow man. Being Christian or conservative or a combination of the two is not viewed as popular in American Society. This group clearly proves otherwise. Don't feel afraid or silenced, and always speak your mind.

The inaccurate manifestations of conservatism cloud the real mettle in its core. Flawed politicians lay on both sides of the political spectrum, however, we believe the core conservative principles of Ronald Reagan, Martin Luther King Jr., and arguably Jesus are the flag-bearers of the true conservative movement. Reasons for our belief regarding Jesus and MLK are explained in an article below.

"Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. King was no stalwart conservative, yet his core beliefs, such as the power and necessity of faith-based association and self-government based on absolute truth and moral law, are profoundly conservative. Modern liberalism rejects these ideas, while conservatives place them at the center of their philosophy. Despite decades of its appropriation by liberals, Kings message was fundamentally conservative." 2

"Not one place in the bible did Jesus advocate it was the function of government to do what loving human beings ought to do on their own. As noted above, conservatives are not opposed to social programs. We shed our blood, donate our time, apply our labor, and voluntarily redistribute our income to the poor... Jesus was a conservative because he promoted charitable giving on behalf of individuals, not government. Jesus was a conservative because he promoted the hard work and success of the individual, not the legislative body of the government. Jesus was a conservative he saw giving as a ministry of the gospel, not a secular and spiritless exercise of government in order to level the economic playing field... It takes a lot more to give from your personal resources than it does to compel others to give through taxation." 1 The Young Cons believe the Bible is relatively silent on issues relating to supply-side economics, taxation and the proper role of government in our society. We are just sharing the different origins of our personal beliefs and are honored to have the chance to defend them on a massive scale. The goals of Young Conservatives, recently dubbed "Young Cons", is to promote constructive debate and tolerance. Rather than bashing viewpoints that deviate ideologically, the purpose is to make both sides of the aisle think critically about their respective political and moral beliefs. Ultimately, people will not listen to a man or woman shouting forceful and rude statements , no matter how "correct" said statements may be. True conservative views will hold up in any ideological debate, and turning positive discussion into hate propaganda and name calling is unacceptable. For real change to occur we must do as Jesus did and love those of opposing views with all our hearts. Once this happens our fiscal and social views will be easily recognized as undeniable truth. Please post any good articles you've come across, books you've read, videos you've seen, or sound bites you have heard. The real views of change are making a comeback! You can either love us or hate us, but either way we love you and respect you as a fellow human being. Certain philosophical views of current politicians could not be more opposite than mine, but this changes nothing of my feelings for them as human beings as well as brothers and sisters under God.

Gravely Wicked

Robert P. George
The Corner

Whoever murdered George Tiller has done a gravely wicked thing. The evil of this action is in no way diminished by the blood George Tiller had on his own hands. No private individual had the right to execute judgment against him. We are a nation of laws. Lawless violence breeds only more lawless violence. Rightly or wrongly, George Tilller was acquitted by a jury of his peers. "Vengeance is mine, says the Lord." For the sake of justice and right, the perpetrator of this evil deed must be prosecuted, convicted, and punished. By word and deed, let us teach that violence against abortionists is not the answer to the violence of abortion. Every human life is precious. George Tiller's life was precious. We do not teach the wrongness of taking human life by wrongfully taking a human life. Let our "weapons" in the fight to defend the lives of abortion's tiny victims, be chaste weapons of the spirit.

— Robert P. George is McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University.

[Will] the Obama administration plans to do anything about
the terrorist threat posed by religious right extremists

The Tiller Blame Game

Kathryn Jean Lopez
The Corner

The Internet is a wild forest of ridiculous comments about George Tiller's murder. This, from the AMERICAblog, high among them:

<<< Thank God that the Obama administration caved last month to religious right and GOP demands that it withdraw a new domestic terrorism report that indicated, among other things, that radicals might use abortion as a justification for committing acts of domestic terrorism. Now a man is dead, and an American church has been shot up during services. Which leads to the question as to whether the Obama administration plans to do anything about the terrorist threat posed by religious right extremists, or whether typical Democratic spinelessness will lead us to now ignore this brutal murder, since that is the message that was sent last month, just weeks before this act of terror.

Note that had Obama held firm in the face of the criticism last month, he'd be riding high right now and the GOP would be cowering in shame for having basically enabled this terrorist act. But Democrats rarely look to the future, nor do they see benefit in having a spine or doing what's right. And now a man is dead. >>>

Blaming the Obama administration for Tiller's death is as nutty as blaming Bill O'Reilly (which, of course, is happening too).

If the Pro-Life Movement Is Responsible for the Murder of Tiller . . .

Noemie Emery
The Corner

. . . isn't the peace movement responsible for the shootings at the recruiting station?

Every cause has extremists and lunatics, which the saner ones cannot control.

The murder of a soldier at an Arkansas recruiting depot by a Muslim convert is unrelated to the killing of Wichita doctor George Tiller by a man described as an anti-abortion activist except in that both events show how a militant idea can take on human form. KARK 4 News news reports:

<<< Just after 5:00 this evening, Little Rock Police say Abulhakin Muhammad, also known as Carlos Bledsoe, will be charged with capital murder and 15 counts of terroristic acts after a shooting at an Army/Navy recruitment center on Rodney Parham Road in Little Rock. … Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas says Muhammad, originally of Memphis, targeted military personnel. 23-year-old Private William Long, of Conway, died as a result of his injuries. 18-year-old Private Quinton Ezeagwula, of Jacksonville, was also shot. Chief Thomas says he is in stable condition and will recover. >>>

The Kansas City Star wrote in an editorial that Dr. George Tiller’s death was public policy advocacy “by bullet”. “This is a horrible notion, and must be rejected by all,” it wrote. Yet if one is justified in fingering anti-abortion activists as contributing to the climate which killed Dr. Tiller, what can be said of those who made the acts in Arkansas intellectually attractive to Abulhakin Muhammad, formerly Carlos Bledsoe? One of the dangers of political speech is that listeners might actually take words seriously. “Don’t tell me words don’t matter”, Barack Obama once said. He was right: they do. For that reason the murders of Tiller and Long won’t just be about a criminal tragedy, as if it were some drug-fueled, mindless crime. They will be about words and their consequences.

Words are potent stuff. They can turn on the men who speak them. Sometimes they can even possess them. Even an anarchist like Errico Malatesta could be wary of them. Those who live by the meme, die by the meme. Malatesta wrote:

<<< “Violence (physical force) used to another’s hurt, which is the most brutal form of struggle between men can assume, is eminently corrupting. It tends, by its very nature, to suffocate the best sentiments of man, and to develop all the antisocial qualities, ferocity, hatred, revenge, the spirit of domination and tyranny, contempt of the weak, servility towards the strong. And this harmful tendency arises also when violence is used for a good end. … Anarchists who rebel against every sort of oppression and struggle for the integral liberty of each and who ought thus to shrink instinctively from all acts of violence which cease to be mere resistance to oppression and become oppressive in their turn are also liable to fall into the abyss of brutal force.” >>>
