So notaries and ticket agents are now effectively a deputy police force.

I understand the identity theft angle and the terrorist on a plane angle (sort of), but it still troubles me, a lot. And according to that blog, here in Illinois the ledger has to be turned in every 2 weeks. So do I assume there is some new agency here scanning those prints or do they just put them in a box in the basement. Too easy to put a highly intrusive system in place and then use it for other purposes. Like the social security number, which caused a stink when instituted. Or the IRS which someone just used to threaten ruin to recalcitrant secured bond holders. Or J Edgar Hoover with files on everybody. A little blackmail, anybody? I'm sure I'm over reacting, all this being a done deal with nary a whimper from us boiled frogs.

God give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.
Maybe I can get a really good deal on a chevy today.

Oddly, my generally dour banker/notary was friendlier to me than he had ever been in the past. Apparently he felt more put upon by the new rules than by me requesting the service.
