Year 2000 Stocks Could Be Shelter From Stormy Markets

As he does weekly, [Ed] Yardini [chief economist of Deutsche Morgan Grenfell] spent 30 minutes Tuesday discussing the effects of the Year 2000 on the markets, Securities and Exchange Commission and corporate litigation. "We don't have a crowd as large as usual because of the markets," he said on the call. "But I think it's important to continue this focus on Y2K. I'm focused on the macro economic effects of the Year 2000 and I'm increasingly concerned that there may be a recession as a result of it."

And as that inevitability becomes more apparent, more and more traders are saying that Year 2000 stocks -- down with the market over the last few days -- might be the best bet in market downturns.
