Fair enough. I thought the market crashed for different reasons (one being the unexpected failure of lehman), not just CDS auctions where the market foretold the result pretty well. By banning short sales in stocks the authorities made the markets (particularly the availability of hedges to the CDS markets) even more unstable as it was running on low power. It was like removing all control rods from a corus which promptly overheated.
