We heard nothing in the media about what was really going on
with these Fed rescues or why they were done. Derivatives
were the reason. Apparently, it all came out OK after the
fact, but the whole system was about to implode at the time -g-

I think I read GM had around 1 Trillion notional CDS tied
to it. While stories claimed payouts were small due
to netting, the market repeatedly crashed into these auction.
There were 3 biggies in October - FNM/FRE, Lehman, and WAMU. The
market crashed each time, with the auction day being the
bottom. If this indeed was nothing, would not the
market just crash once and then rally?
