Have you been following this story? Its rather amazing. First, I never knew how dangerous is was to fly over that part of the equator between SA and Africa. They are saying that there is a wall of thunderstorms with clouds reaching as high as 55k feet nearly all the time and that it has updrafts of 100 mph even when its not hurricane season. Secondly, how many times have we been told that turbulence rarely can damage a plane. Now they think this plane broke up in the air due to turbulence and possibly other factors like lightning. Those poor people must have been terrified......I hope it ended quickly for their sake.
