Yes, that was the point of their experiment. Take a page out of nature's book in order to produce methanol. To me, anything that helps us close the loop on carbon fuel usage sounds excellent. Full closed loop cycle. Everyone's gotta love that.

The process is called photosynthesis.

Unfortunately that process uses less than half the available energy spectrum of electromagnetic energy output of the sun.
