In retrospect, maybe Cuban or Chinese style communism in Africa would have moved the general masses more quickly to health and prosperity.

There is virtually no example of an authoritarian leftist regime producing anything but misery anywhere in Africa. And it has been tried many, many times.

That is partly why the place is still so messed up. Achieving even a modicum of good governance can be a huge challenge in Africa.
