"to claim that longevity is a meaningful measure of the quality of health care"

It makes perfect sense to me, and anyone that desires to live a long, high quality life. It IS a measure of health care in enlightened countries, and should be in ours, if, as you claim, it isn't - which I don't think is true.

Have you heard the term "holistic"? My doctor, who practices holistic medicine, is ALWAYS urging me to change my eating habits and lifestyle to improve my health. If your's isn't, you've got a crap doctor. Any doctor who thinks his job is just to prescribe pills for your ills is a crap doctor.
