There is indeed an ample lack of evidence to support the position that "Jesus's existence is suspect".

The evidence is just as great and greater to support the existence of the historical Jesus as the evidence to support the existence of the historical Genghis Khan or Gautama Buddha.

You'd be on better ground simply saying that Jesus was only human or something like that.
