Excite Joins With Scoot(UK) Ltd To Create Top Local Finding Service

OXFORD, England, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Excite, Inc. (Nasdaq:XCIT), a leading Internet media company, and Scoot(TM), a subsidiary of Freepages plc (Nasdaq:FREEY), have joined forces to create a comprehensive easy-to-use and locally driven finding service. The service, ExciteScoot will be available at the end of November through the Excite Network ( excite.co.uk ) and will draw on Scoot's complete business and entertainment listings.

There are over 2 million records divided into over 2,300 key words covering more than 20,000 locations nationally. The constantly updated database -- one of the UK's largest -- ensures close to 100 percent accuracy.

For the consumer who's interested in food, for example, there's an accurate and up-to-date listing of just about everything they could want from the nearest Chinese takeaway to the closest chemist for a new batch of indigestion tablets. This service allows high leverage into the corporate sector, opening up possible advertising sales as well as on-net transactions in the near future.

But closer to home, if the plumbing is a little suspect, or the gas boiler's about to blow, ExciteScoot will quickly locate emergency help.

Jed Simmons, Managing Director of Excite International and Senior Vice President of Excite Inc. says, ''Scoot's philosophy of getting straight to the point, and Excite's unrivaled experience in search and navigation makes the partnership irresistible to Internet users who want to avoid long-winded searches, long-lists and heavy paper-based directories.''

Martin Keogh, Director of Product Development at Scoot continues, ''Excite is one of the most progressive Internet companies in the world. We are happy that Scoot, with such a new and exciting brand, is going to work with Excite to offer a genuinely excellent local finding service here in the UK.''

The service complements Excite's own Search and Directory services, the ultimate web tool for putting users in touch with resources they need, and will be launched by the end of the year.

Scoot(TM) is a leading provider of branded communications services, providing buyers with powerful decision making information and connecting them directly with Sellers though mass distribution channels.

Localized versions of Excite are also available internationally for the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Sweden, Netherlands, Australia and Japan. Based in Redwood City, Calif., Excite, Inc. has strategic relationships with America Online, Inc., Intuit Inc., Tribune Company, CUC Investments Inc., Apple Computer, Inc. and Netscape Communications Corp.

.......luckily they have not gone to sleep over there in redwood city

.........bought in on the drop and may add more......
