Coug, i need to explain what i mean by violence. to me, violence is action or inaction with disregard for another. by that definition caning a thief wouldn't be violent. doing nothing to the thief would be violent to both his victim and the thief. as long as it is done like a severe spanking and not over done to the point of permanent injury or debilitation. i don't limit my definition of violence to just physical violence.

if the government doesn't punish a person that swindles you, then the government is being violent to you. because the government isn't acting with regard for you.

and the punishment of course doesn't need to be physical. it just needs to commensurate.
