Make no mistake, I do, too. It has been part of, or all of, my living for 30 years. But I think the savings potential is way overrated. I certainly think it will lead to better care. There seems to be the claim that IT will save money due to efficiency, which it will -- but whether there is a "net" savings is a different matter. If the free markets do IT it is expensive, and if you turn it over to government it is destined to be a train wreck.

Totally agree about tort reform. That's a biggie - but I don't hear any talk about it coming from the administration. And I think it is a safe bet we're not going to get any deregulation under the current government, either.

It is hard for me to believe they're going to generate the kinds of savings that are needed without materially cutting services and quality of care. And if the People choose to do that I'm down with it, but I hate to see it happen under the false pretense [imo] that more government intervention will lead to savings while maintaining quality.

I spent 15 years as a CPA dealing with the IRS and SSA, and have spent another 15 dealing with Medicare and Medicaid, and I've yet to see one of these programs well-executed (actually, I think SS's administration is as good as government gets but I've spent a lot of time having to fight them for the money clients are entitled to; that doesn't seem like the basis for great health care...).
