I don't think anyone can honestly complain about racism in modern times if they are not willing to recognize the cruel and hateful treatment doled out to Ms Rice. She is the quintessential example of quietly suffering through it all with grace and dignity.

"When she was just eight years old, Ms Rice was standing inside her father's church when she felt the floor shake. A Ku Klux Klan bomb had exploded at a Baptist Church two blocks away, killing four young black girls, one of them her classmate since kindergarten."

"My parents had me absolutely convinced that, well, you may not be able to have a hamburger at Woolworth's but you can be president of the United States,"

She has been attacked continually from all sides just for being black and daring to hold high office during a conservative administration. Black journalists call her the Devil's Handmaiden and a race traitor while white journalists have produced racist cartoon characterizations mocking her black features and emphasising ancient negative stereotypes.

She endured all of this while doing an admirable job as Secretary of State and without exploiting the role of victim. She did it without the benefit of parades marching in her support. She just did it because it was the right thing to do.

She is a frigg'n Saint is what she is and anyone who isn't willing to recognize the burden she has born has no business even bringing up the issue of racism.
