I think during the Great Depression and S&L crisis, the banks and S&L's failed. I suppose we could say the organization of the Federal Reserve was a takeover.

Warrants on loans aren't actually equity till converted. And the government sold on conversion.

I still see owning GM and Chrysler and cap and trade as new things for this country. You can claim otherwise but ....
