Not that you could ever understand nuance or subtlety, i will still address this to you.
It doesnt matter that israel has the high ground. Few buy it. They have bought the logic of Ted that whoever is underdog du jour deserves sympathy and support and that the big dog deserves derision and insults. Its in this enviroment that Obama lives. Bush stood on principle and it did not advance the cause of peace or israels cause for that matter. Unlike Bush, Obama is a pragmatist first. His heart may bleed for pals but he understands history including the history that krauthammer points out. Americas national interest is peace with arab states, containing iran, etc. Is he sacrificing israel the way chamberlin sacrificed czechoslovakia? No way. he is taking on a very minor issue like settlement growth to make the point to arabs that he will be fair. That helps israel as much as it does the pals because no israeli wants to be condemned to a lifetime in combat with pals and arabs.
It helps with iran because maybe just maybe reformers win. With reformers you may still get nuke power without nuke weapons. Who knows?

>> Conservatives racing ahead in EU parliament voting

Yeah, he's not so quick to credit Obama with THAT, is he?

Like I said to your Arkansas colleague, don't be confused by the terms.......Euro conservatives would be liberals in the good ole US of A.
