Voters Now Trust Republicans More than Democrats on Economic Issues
Monday, June 08, 2009 Email to a Friend ShareThis.Advertisement
Voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats on six out of 10 key issues, including the top issue of the economy.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 45% now trust the GOP more to handle economic issues, while 39% trust Democrats more.

This is the first time in over two years of polling that the GOP has held the advantage on this issue. The parties were close in May, with the Democrats holding a modest 44% to 43% edge. The latest survey was taken just after General Motors announced it was going into bankruptcy as part of a deal brokered by the Obama administration that gives the government majority ownership of the failing automaker.

Voters not affiliated with either party now trust the GOP more to handle economic issues by a two-to-one margin.

Separate Rasmussen tracking shows that the economy remains the top issue among voters in terms of importance.

Republicans also now hold a six-point lead on the issue of government ethics and corruption, the second most important issue to all voters and the top issue among unaffiliated voters. That shows a large shift from May, when Democrats held an 11-point lead on the issue.

For the eighth straight month, Republicans lead on national security. The GOP now holds a 51% to 36% lead on the issue, up from a seven-point lead in May. They also lead on the war in Iraq 45% to 37%, after leading by just two points in May and trailing the Democrats in April.

Fewer voters see national security as a very important issue this month, but confidence that the United States and its allies are winning the War on Terror is at its highest level since February.

Republicans lead the Democrats on immigration for the third straight month, pulling ahead to a 35% to 29% advantage on the issue.

On taxes, the GOP leads the Democrats for the fifth straight month, 44% to 39%. In May and April, Republicans held six-point leads on the issue.

Democrats continue to hold the lead on the issues of health care, Social Security and education. While Democrats have a 10-point advantage on health care, that’s down from the 18-point lead the party had a month ago.

Democrats lead by six points on Social Security, down from nine points in May. The parties were tied on the issue in April.

On education, Democrats hold a 44% to 37% lead over Republicans.

The parties are tied on the issue of abortion for the second straight month, each earning 41% support from voters.

Its not the school or states job to give kids pride in who or what they are .... except maybe for being good students. Did your school organize a white pride club for you?

Yes, its called the school.

I am saying let them be who they are. You are the one that wants them silenced.

I'm saying let them be who they are w/o the school or state getting involved. Especially in something like sexual identity. Why do liberals want the state and school to get into gay people's bedroom?

Public schools have had a long history of providing facilities for like minded students to meet after school. Why should the gay students be treated any differently?

.......when they are alone, they are getting beaten up for whom they are. This is not news......did you not go to school in the US?

I saw kids picked on, but I don't know that the picked on kids were gay. No one said they were at the time. I know of two people in my hometown who turned out to be gay. As far as I know neither was picked on. One was the youngest brother of a family with a lot of boys, the older of whom were all athletes, though this one, the youngest brother wasn't. Wait, thats wrong - he played football and baseball I recall, just not basketball like his older brothers. I have a feeling its out of the ordinary for kids to be picked on as gay. But gay kids getting picked on will actually increase if the school encourages "gay kids" to publicly label themselves and act out in strange ways. I don't think this movement has anything to do with what is best for young people who think they're gay.

In reality, it decreases. Knowledge breeds respect for each other. I student taught in a school where the gay kids were quite active. There was no gay bashing while I was there.

Now you have problems with fat kids as well?

No, I dont' have trouble with fat kids. As you know, I used them as an example - it would be silly to have schools form Fat Pride Clubs because fat kids sometimes get picked on.

When do jocks not have girlfriends......again, did you not go to school in the US?

You think in stereotypes a lot. In your mind, jocks all have girlfriends, they're probably all arrogant bullies.

True.....not all jocks are arrogant bullies but the ones we were discussing WERE bullies.....sadistic bullies. And most jocks are popular....and tend to attract girls.

Gays are all little wimps who are all brutalized at every turn. ....

Your point is well taken.
